MySites Vs One Drive For Business

    Question

  • Hi,

What is major difference between MySites and ODFB?

With One Drive For Business do we still need MySites? What would be the driving force to have both of them in the farm?

    Thanks,

  • MySites is the old terminology for ODFB.  They are essentially the same thing.  The only difference is that usually ODFB is talking about personal sharePoint sites in Office 365 and MySites is talking about personal SharePoint sites on-premises.  But the new terminology is OneDrive whether you are on-premises or in the cloud.  In an on-premises farm you can't have both of them.  YOu can have an on-premises mySite (OneDrive) and an Office 365 OneDrive.  But if all you have is on-premises then they are just different names for the same thing.
