Which gives better performance - 2 Virtual or 2 physical front-ends? RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

I have a quick and short question: Which is better with regards to performance?

    FARM 1

2 Virtual Web Front End (2GB RAM each)

    1 Physical Index (10GB RAM)

    1 Physical SQL 2005 (8GB RAM)

    --------------------------------------------

    FARM 2

2 Physical Web front End (2GB RAM each)

    1 Physical Index (10GB RAM)

    1 Physical SQL 2005 (8GB RAM)

    --------------------------------------------

    FARM 3

2 Physical Web front End (10GB RAM each)

    1 Physical Index (10GB RAM)

    1 Physical SQL 2005 (8GB RAM)

    --------------------------------------------

    Good analysis will be appreciated.

    Cheers all!

  • Hi newcreationxavier,

According to my experience, in most cases, FARM 3 will be the best of these three farms. However, this depends on your environment and situation. For example, the number of users, if only a few users, in terms of performance, it may not much difference between these three. Maybe you can have a look at this article to know some about  the software boundaries of SP 2007: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc262787(office.12).aspx.

    Thanks & Regards,
