Windows Server 2012R2- installed WSUS but no Windows 10 OS shows under Products and Classifications RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello-

Have not used WSUS in a while so bear w me. Simple question, installed WSUS on Server 2012 and in WSUS under Products and classifications under Windows it only goes up to Windows XP. Did I miss installing an update or some components?

    Thanks.

  • There are a number of steps to getting WSUS on server 2012 to push Windows 10 updates.   Has to do with decrypting .esd diles.

    start here

    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/3095113/update-to-enable-wsus-support-for-windows-10-feature-upgrades

    and here

    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/3159706/update-enables-esd-decryption-provision-in-wsus-in-windows-server-2012

If i remember correctly there are some minor changes that have to happen in IIS as well.

Honestly, I'm not sure what else is involved.  I had planned to stand up a new instance of WSUS on 2012R2 but after doing a ton of research and saw all the problems people initially had with this OS/WSUS combo, I opted to go to Server 2016 with WSUS.

It has no problems downloading and distributing updates for W10 clients.  Food for thought if you're not too far down this hole, or don't have any hang-ups with licensing Server 2016.

Start googling WSUS 2012R2 esd update files.

    hope that helps!

First, do a synchronization and install after all Updates you get
offer from Windows Update for this Server.

  • Hi,

Are you talking about server 2012 R2 not server 2012?
Is this environment newly configured or a production environment that running for a while?

You should try with tim and Winfried's suggested. If you are still in doubt, you could take screenshots and extract windowsupdate.log for more information.
