Kernel 32 GetShortPathName return ******* RRS feed

  • Question

  • Good Morning,

Do not know if this is the correct palce to ask this.

We have a call to the DLL in order to try and get the short path of a file that we need to open in an embedded browser.

It is working for all users except one.  For this user we call it with \\NEWORK_DRIVE_NAME\users\USER_NAME with her user name being 9 characters.

It returns ************. We can create any directory as a sibling to her USER_NAME folder and it fails.

    ex. \\NEWORK_DRIVE_NAME\users\test12345                 fails

But if we reduce the directory with 1 character it works

    ex. \\NEWORK_DRIVE_NAME\users\test1234   works

The permissions are the same on both directories. So the call to the DLL is working. It is only when the DLL tries to obtain the short path that it fails.

If we use the same directories and call the DLL as a Domain Administrator it works.

Do you know there might be any permission/security problem/setting that might cause this?

    Thanks in advance

As this forum focuses on Windows SteadyState specific issues. I suggest asking MSDN Windows General for further help:
