Windows 2008R2 STD server with many USB smart card readers fail to boot after SP1 installation RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello,

We have HP DL380P G8 server with Windows 2008R2 STD edition. We have connected five 10 port USB hub & each HUB has 10 Omnikey readers conencted. We use this setup for build test. When we installed SP1 on this server, it fails to boot & stucked up on applying computer settings. If we remove USB HUB & restart server, it will boot properly. I can see errors in event viewer as

WDM Reader driver initialization cannot open reader device:  The system cannot find the path specified. Event ID: 602

Can you please help me to solve this issue

    Thanks in Advance !

    Regards

    Mahesh

Answers

  • Seems like a driver problem. Are the card readers recognized when plugged in after a successful Windows boot? Is there any third-party software or driver required for the card reader? If yes, remove them and reinstall. As the card readers are attached through USB ports,  go to Device Manager - Universal Serial Bus and right click on each one and select uninstall. Then, shut down the server and start the server with card readers attached, Windows shall reinstall the required drivers.
