measure-vm : Sequence contains no elements

    Question

  • We are running Hyper-V 2016 and started noticing that when running the command Measure-VM on our VMs we start getting an error:

measure-vm : Sequence contains no elements
    At line:1 char:1
    + measure-vm VMNAME
    + ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
        + CategoryInfo          : InvalidOperation: (:) [Measure-VM], VirtualizationException
        + FullyQualifiedErrorId : InvalidOperation,Microsoft.HyperV.PowerShell.Commands.MeasureVM

We tried running this on all of our VMs:

    Disable-VMResourceMetering VMNAME

    Enable-VMResourceMetering VMNAME

But the feeling is that when we moved the VMs to a new host or something else happened the errors returned.

Any ideas what the issue is?

  • I'm also seeing this error happening randomly.

    WMI instances just disappear.

Did you manage to find the culprit?

  • Nope. Unfortunately not. We just created a scheduled task to disable/enable the vmresourcemetering.
