Is domain group information encoded in the cached credential data? RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi, all...

The title pretty much asks the question....I was just wondering how a laptop "on the road" and away from its domain could know how a domain user was part of the local machine's Users group unless (for example) the Domain Users RID was somehow mapped into the cached credential information...or if, perhaps, the tokens associated with that last logon were in the cache.

So, rather than guess, I just thought I'd ask how that prcoess works. That is, when a user logs into a domain-member laptop "on the road," how does Vista (or XP/Win 7 for that matter) know that user is a member of the Domain Users group that is rolled into the laptop's local Users group unless that info is somehow integrated into the credential cache?

    Blessings and thanks,
    David
