Why Isn't KB2919442 In the Catalog? RRS feed

  • Question

  • KB2919442 is the documented prerequisite for KB2919355 which is the documented prerequisite for the cumulative updates for Server 2012 R2 (ex. KB4019215).  However, KB2919442 isn't in the catalog (search) which means it's not in WSUS nor can I import it.  As a result, many of our Server 2012 R2 devices report all the cumulative updates as 'Not Applicable' leaving then unpatched.

I suspect there's some newer prerequisite for KB2919355 but I haven't found it yet.

  • I think I have this figured out.  Our TAM finally got in touch with us and gave us some info.

KB2919442 (March 2014) was superseded by KB2969339 (April 2014) which was superseded by KB2975061 (May 2014) which was superseded by KB3012199 (December 2014) which was superseded by KB3021910 (April 2015) which was superseded by KB3173424 (July 2016). But guess what? That last one, the most recent, requires KB2919355 which of course requires KB2919442 which means that its dependency chain is circular.

To fix this it looks like you need to deploy KB3021910 (April 2015) which is superseded but has no dependencies.
