Help with: "No mapping between account names and security IDs was done." RRS feed

  • Question

  • I probably made a major mistake yesterday by changing a stupid name installed by the manufacturer for my Administration account to something more palatable. Now I consistently get the following message when I try to open the Control Panel.

    ::{21EC2020-3AEA-1069-A2DD-08002B30309D}

    No mapping between account names and security IDs was done.

    I assume there is something I can do via the Command Prompt, but I do not know the string.

    I would appreciate some help.

    Hi Laurence, are you using Windows XP as the issue usually occur on Windows XP instead of Windows Vista. If this is the case, I suggest you check the solution in KB890737:

    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/890737

    You can also post it to Windows XP forum:

    If you are using Windows Vista, I suggest you first try System Restore. If the issue still occurs, please creating a new user account and see the result.

  • Hi Sean,

    Thanks for your note.

    I am using Vista Ultimate.

    I looked at the Windows XP suggestion, but was hesitant to go that route without the assurance that I would not be making a bigger mess. System Restore poses the same risk.

    At the moment, this only affects a couple of things, such as moving attachments from incoming e-mail or accessing the Control Panel.

    I assume there is a parallel correction via the Command Prompt but I do not know the string.

    Hi Laurence, does this occur if you create a new user? The quickest workaround is to create a new user account and move the original settings and user profile to the new one. Also, I'll further check if we can use some commands to resolve the issue.
