  • Hi CoolerKing,

This error is almost always associated with an installer package that has been corrupted during download, usually caused by a network issue. Downloading the package anew usually solves the problem, but in some cases the download manager tries to "help" by picking up a partial download from your temp directory and restarting from the middle, which can result in corruption on every download attemt. I typically recommend that you clear your Temp folder before trying the to download the package again. But before you do, let's get to your second question (you haven't asked it yet, but you will)...

The AdventureWorks database requires that Fulltext Search be enabled in SQL Server in order to be attached and Fulltext Search is not included in the core SQL Express package and therefore attach will fail. You have two options:

    1. Upgrade to SQL Express with Advanced Services, which does include Fulltest Search.
    2. Install AdventureWorks2008LT, which is a smaller, simpler database with a streamlined schema.

If you want to use AdventureWorks2008LT you'll want to download the ZIP file version which just has the mdf/ldf files that you can copy into your .\DATA directory and attach. You won't be able to install AdventureWorks2008LT from the main "all databases" package because it populates its data from AdventureWorks208, which as I've indicated, won't attach. (This is why the ZIP version of the LT database exists.)

If you actually need the full AdventureWorks2008 (eg. You're working through examples that use this database as the sample data) then you'll need to install Express Advanced. Check out the FAQ at the top of this forum to get information on how to upgrade between different editions of SQL Server 2008, there are some steps that are required that you'll miss if you don't know about them in advance.
