Manged Folder Polices for 2007. RRS feed

  • Question

  • We are configuring MFP for 2007 and have a few questions

1- We are not using the default managed folders Policies, We are creating a rule for say INBOX/Sent/Trash/ETC each with different retention times. based on "E-Mail" for the conetent setting.  I did this because I am worried if I did "All Mailbox Content" It will remove Contacts/Calendar stuff we don't want to loose.  Am I correct on this?

2- I want to create a Managed Custom folder where people can put up to 1GB of data they wish to keep past 365 Days.  I have the folder created and the size limit set but how do I exclude that from the inbox rule I created?

FYI, My 2 rules in place are folder type Inbox/Sent Items.  Message type is "Email" not all mailbox.

    Thanks, Grady Vogt

  • Hi Grady,

Thank you for you further explanation, got it.
If you do not put a MRM on the folder, the folder would not apply any policy.
If you put a MRM on inbox folder, the root and subfolder all apply the policy, but you could set it base on folder to except the subfolder.

  • Hi Grady Vogt,

For 1, you could do that, some information about MRM in exchange 2007:
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb310756(EXCHG.80).aspx
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb123507(EXCHG.80).aspx
For 2, per my know, there is no inbox rule could move the item based on the emial size, it all depends on the account operation.

  • not looking to move by email size.  I want all emails 365 days and older to be deleted from exchange.. However, I want to provide a folder that is NOT effected by the policy but limits the user to 1GB of storage. This way they put important email in the folder that wont be deleted..

I wanted to know if my managed folder can be excluded from my set policies?

if I DONT put a MRM on the managed folder will this protect it? even if I put one on the inbox?

    Thanks, Grady Vogt

  • Gavin,

Thank you for clarity. Yes, your links are good..

I just need to verify that the Custom Managed Folders that I create are NOT effected by rules on the inbox.  If I wanted retention policies on them I have to create an EXTRA MRM JUST for that managed folder.. Is this correct?
