Custom Credential Provider RRS feed

  • Question

  • We are currently looking at a number of self-service password reset options to install on our company workstations. One of the requirements for the software is that it provides end-users with a way to reset or unlock their accounts from the Windows login screen. The most common way I see this being done is via a credential provider or Windows login tile that is installed. The user can click on the tile and be taken to a password reset portal or something similar.

I have seen some of these Windows tiles being installed and calling dll's while others are services.  I am concerned about deploying these extra 'windows tiles' to our workstations and it conflicting with the normal Windows login process.  Has anyone ever heard of this happening?

Obviously we will do extensive testing with this, but how can I be sure that any software we deploy will not interfere with any of the standard Winlogon process?

    Thanks.
