WSUS will not install RRS feed

  • Question

  • Greetings,

I have been having problems with the WSUS after I tried to install KB2720211. The installation failed but since then I have been unable to get the snap in to work. I tried a lot of fixes recommended online but nothing worked. It was suggested to me that is uninstall the WSUS and reinstall it again but after doing that I have a bigger problem. The WSUS will not install.

Here is the error message from the server manager log

The server seems to be unable to locate the installation file for the WSUS and now I am completely stuck.

    Anyone who can help me?

    Thanks

My apologies.. i should have read more carefully... I see now that the issue is about a failed reinstallation of WSUS.

Looks to me like perhaps the machine is still configured as a WSUS client and it tried to get the dynamic installer for WSUS from itself -- except there's no WSUS server there to get it from. You'll need to make this machine NOT a WSUS client so that you can download the dynamic installer from Microsoft Update, or else download and run the standalone installer.

You can temporarily make the machine NOT a WSUS client by doing the following:

    1. Run gpupdate to refresh Group Policy and reset the Group Policy refresh interval.
    2. Edit the registry and change UseWUServer to dword:0x0 in HKLM\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsUpdate\AU
    3. Restart the Windows Update service.

You now have 60 minutes to initiate the installation of the WSUS role and it will get the installer from MU. The group policy refresh will automatically convert the machine back to being a WSUS client by the end of 2 hours.

Gee... pretty much what I said in my previous post.

You can temporarily make the machine NOT a WSUS client by doing the following:

    1. Run gpupdate to refresh Group Policy and reset the Group Policy refresh interval.
    2. Edit the registry and change UseWUServer to dword:0x0 in HKLM\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsUpdate\AU

btw, with regard to Matt's post... most likely a problem for him because he likely did not have the WSUS Dynamic Installer update approved for installation.
