  • The issue can occur if third party programs affect Microsoft Update service. I suggest temporarily turnning off UAC and manually install Office update to test the issue.

  • Hi Sabrina,

This didn't help in my case. UAC is disabled on this computer. Office 2010 was installed on top of 2007. I tried to manually download and install KB2596764. But it still failed (no error code, just a message "install failed" in a dialog box).

How can I prevent windows from trying to install this every time we shut down ?

  • I am still getting this error message

I have download the patch from the following URL

    http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=28515

and it still fails.  I do not know what a UAC is nor would I know how to disable it.  How can I get this patch installed so that I am not left vulnerable to bad coding in the first place.
