Cannot upgrade from IE6 to IE7/8 on restored OS system RRS feed

  • Question

  • System: WinXP Media Center SP3

I had a serious Trojan infection that I cleared and had to do a OS CD "repair" (soft rebuild). Subsequent to the rebuild, IE 7 when "clicked" just showed a quick hour glass then nothing.

I did research and found the KB that says if you do a soft OS restore with a later IE versions than original (which is IE6), the later IE will not open. I then uninstalled IE7 which restored IE6.

IE6 works just fine and I do see Internet Options in Control Panel. I advanced the system to current patch and SP levels. IE 6 works fine.

I did a restore point before accepting the IE7 upgrade. When completed, IE7 would not open and Internet Options was missing in Control Panel. I did a system restore and IE 6 works (BTW, Firefox is also on the system and it works in any configuration)

Is there something else I can do or am I stuck at IE6?
