HIS2006 SP1 and VMWare VM's and active status issue RRS feed

  • Question

  •  I am currently in the process of migrating 2 HIS 2006 to EE. I am
using a pair of VMWare instances running 2003 and HIS 2006 SP1 for my
migration platform. There in a 2 server SNA domain different from the
production one and see each other fine etc.
The problem I have is I see no status info for any pu/lu in any
swlist. Even thought there UP and I can obtain and LU etc. Looking at
the SNA manager there is no status at all. They stop/start fine work
over EE fine. Activate in VTAM fine etc. It's something with the
management console showing the correct status. There IP and/or Netbios
over IP tried all combos. I'm stuck any ideas?

  • Correct I found a KB patch to SP1 that fixed it.
HIS2006-SP1-KB2579597-ENU And SNA Manager was running on the server. The
problem is they had no status at all active or otherwise. This KB patch
    fixed it thanks.

I'm responding because you mention VTAM and Enterprise Extender (EE). I know a bit about topics related to VTAM and EE but not a lot about HIS and the IP-DLC Link Service with the exception of the IP-DLC Link Service parameters relating to establishing the logical connection over the IP network and the logical connection supporting SSCP-PU and SSCP-LU sessions.

Having established my credentials, I am having an *enormous* difficulty understanding about what you are talking here!

    > The problem I have is I see no status info for any pu/lu in any swlist.

Please explain what this means. To what does "swlist" refer?

    > Even thought there UP and I can obtain and LU etc.

Please explain what this means. Should "there" be "they are"? Not that that helps much.

What are "they"? What works over EE fine? How do you know? That is what do relevant VTAM DISPLAY commands show?

    > Activate in VTAM fine etc.

    What activates in VTAM fine?

The grammar got lost here somewhere!

    I expect we're all stuck!

One idea is to find a colleague who can write clear English who can express what you want to say!

  • Stan,

If I understand corrctly, you are running SNA Manager and you are not seeing correct status for the connections and LUs. Is this correct?

If so, can you tell me what status you see for the LUs under the connections when things are up and users are able to get sessions?

Also, are you running SNA Manager on the HIS Server system or from a remote HIS Client?

    Thanks...

  • Stan,

If I understand correctly, in you case VTAM seems to be active :

=> Please check first the following :

    1. In your CICS : CEMT I CON (.....) if your connection is activated, you should se INS ACQ or INS OBT

    2. Please check in your TSO session SDSF if you sessions are established

It appears that with HIS 2006 the sessions don't appear in the SNA- Manager unless you have done a Diagnostic in your SNA-Manager on the specific Remote and Local LU ===> Tools --> Diagnostic --> APPC

  • Stan,

Steve's last reply made me wonder if you are seeing the behavior described in the following article related to APPC session status in SNA Manager:

971130 FIX: SNA Manager does not update the "User Name," "Client," and "Exe Name" columns when you view the active APPC LU status in Host Integration Server
    http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;971130

    Thanks...

  • I'm happy to hear that the problem is resolved. I just wanted to mention that the fix that you applied was a security update and not a specific fix for this type of issue. However, it would include any fixes that had been done previously for the components that were updated.

    Thanks...
