Exchange 2003 server decommission (Public Folder) RRS feed

    Hello,

    I have Exchange 2003 & Exchange 2010 coexistence. All the mailboxes have been moved to exchange 2010, Email address policy has been upgraded, Recipient policy has been upgraded, Address list has been upgraded. Now the legacy servers have been powered off from last 1 week and users have not noticed any issue.

    My concern is we have public folder in 2003 and which was not being used and management decide we will not migrate public folder to 2010. So the public folders have not been migrated or any thing related to PF also has not been migrated or upgraded.

    So now before decommission exchange 2003 server is there anything which I have to move or upgrade to exchange 2010 even though we are not migrating Public Folder to exchange 2010? Or should I go ahead and directly remove PF and decommission exchange 2003 servers.

    Hi,

    Since you are not using Public Folder anymore, we can remove the Public Folder store in Exchange 2003 and remove the whole Exchange 2003.

    Please make sure there is no Outlook 2003 users in your environment. Then we can do the following steps:

    1. Remove the public folder mailbox and stores on the Exchange 2003 server:

    https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa996441(v=exchg.65).aspx

    2. Remove the last Exchange server 2003 from an Exchange 2010 Organization:

    https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/gg576862(v=exchg.141).aspx
