OUTLOOK 2010_Printer Grayed Out RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

We are having an issue with the Outlook 2010, (Office Professional Plus 14.0) where the print icon grayed out as users attempt to print an email. At the same time however, the same printer can be used via Microsoft Word or any other application. The only printer that is being grayed out is a Canon MF 220 Printer which is having its driver being updated to V4.

This printer is hosted and tested on both Windows 2012 and Windows 2008 Print servers and found no difference. Another thing to note is that this printer is working on other users who use it.

I am halted at this very spot that why only Outlook is unable to print from this printer and a single user have the issue.

  • Hi Yoshika,

I would like to know the grayed out button is Print button or the selected Printer is grayed out. If possible, please provide a screenshot about it.

If it is just related to a specific Printer and you can use other printers in Outlook to print email, I suggest you can reinstall the printer drivers. Also try the following steps to open Outlook in safe mode for further troubleshooting:

Press Win+R to open Run in Windows, type Outlook /safe, press Enter. Then try to print an email to confirm if the issue can be fixed.

If there is no issue in safe mode, go to Outlook File > Options > Add-ins, select COM Add-ins, click GO. Uncheck to disable any third-party add-ins. Restart Outlook normally to have a try.

    Best Regards,

    Winnie Liang

  • Hi Winnie,

Thanks for the update. Please find the screenshot herewith.

    We have done the following.

    1. Reinstall the printer (both on Server and on Local Desktop) with latest drivers.

    2. Open outlook in safe mode.

    3. Check for any third party add on installations - found null.

Seems nothing solves this issue. My worry is its only for one user. He can however use the same printer on Word or any other application. Does this provides any clues?

  • Hi Yoshika,

From the screenshot, it seems that there is connection issue with the Printer in Outlook 2010. Try to click Connect to Printer manually and collect if there is any error description or event logs generated.

Additionally, try to repair Office 2010 on this specific computer: Control Panel > Programs and Features, select Office 2010, click Change > Repair.

In Windows, go to Control Panel > Devices and Printers, select this printer and remove it. Open Outlook, click Print, select Add Printer to add this printer to have a try.

    Best Regards,

    Winnie Liang
