  • Platform as a Service (PaaS) is a delivery of a computing platform over the web. PaaS enables you to create web applications quickly, without the cost and complexity of buying and managing the underlying software/hardware. PaaS provides all the facilities required to support the complete life cycle of building and delivering web applications entirely on the web.

  • Its not so simple answer and not always gives cloud a edge. Though for startups and companies such as e-commerce where the load is not guarnteed then using Cloud is good option as you can scale it anytime and pay for what you use. There are other options also IaaS where you take infrastruture. Take example, you need to have windows 8 machine for windows phone app and your organization doesnt have any license then also cloud is helpful. Just giving small scenerios

  • The best way to explain IaaS, PaaS and SaaS to non-tech folks is to compare it with pizza.. see the image below.

  • There are various uses of Cloud computing.

    1) IaaS - when you dont have sufficient infrastuture or when there is lot of load variation and for limited period, then its better to use IaaS. In simple term you can get the VM based on your need and always have facility to scale it.

    2) Platform as Service - When you dont want to manage the whole platform and only concern about the application, then use Paas. You can scale your application directly without any thing to be considered for infrastructure. Automatically your services can be load balanced as per your need.

    3) Saas - software as service is based upon use pay for software cost instead of going for licensing. e.g. outlook 365. Already many cloud provider are giving access to lot of application as Saas.

There are lot of material to be read and its still evolving but the basic idea lies in the paying only as per your need instead at one go when you are not sure about the load and when there is huge set up cost. That's why many E-commerce websites use cloud since during Festival season when need to scale up.

  • the best answer is - research on it. there is no derivation for it but its a theory of technology where its evolving with new challenges every minute and day. start with basics and stick to one technology at time. you will find interesting and exciting sometimes boar with studying too :)
