Display an Outlook Room on a SharePoint page

    Question

  • We are using Outlook in the cloud and SharePoint online.  I've created a room and now I would like to display that room as a calendar on a SharePoint page and allow students to schedule the room.  A department has 3 rooms they allow dance students to reserve for practice and they would like to utilize SharePoint for this function.  Is this possible?

  • Hi S Boyd,

If you want to use reservation content type in calendar list, you should active “Group Work Lists” web feature, but the feature exists in SharePoint 2010 and hides in SharePoint 2013 and online.

So you could upload the solution into SharePoint online. Then it will have group calendar list and Resource list. You can add resources in the Resource list. And it will display resources in resource column in reservation content type.

For more detailed information, you could refer to the article below.

  • I think I have it working.  I created a 2010 team site with SharePoint 2013 on premise using the Group Work Site template, set up the Group Calendar and added the rooms to the Resources list.   I then converted it to 2013 and migrated the site online using ShareGate.  I didn't know how to get the solution into SharePoint online any other way.  In the end, I think I have what I need.  Thanks for your help.

  • Hi S Boyd,

Where did you create room? How did you create room?

If you create room in admin center, then you can add the room in the office 365 web calendar, but the calendar cannot be display in SharePoint page. For more detailed information, you could refer to the article below.

How to add meeting room calendars in Office 365.

Then I suggest you could create calendar list for different rooms in SharePoint online, add all the created room calendars to one Overlay view, then you can distinguish different rooms according to the different colors. The calendar list can be synced to outlook. And you also could display the calendar in SharePoint page.

  • You cannot embed a Calendar or any other OWA page in SharePoint Online.

  • The room was created in Outlook online.  I thought that would make the resource show up in SharePoint in the drop down "Resources" when I added the "Reservation" content type to the calendar.  The "Resource" drop down is empty and I haven't found a way to add any values to it.  I know I can use regular SharePoint calendars and overlay them to show 3 different calendars but I wanted to use the resource function of reservations and the check for double booking to prevent a user from scheduling in the same time slot.  Each room can only have 1 person in each time slot.  Am I missing something about how to add values to show up in the resource drop down?
