Hyper-V 2012 Fresh install disk space usage RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi All

I have just made a fresh install of Hyper-V 2012

I have, 2 disks both RAID10, 1 disk of 1.6TB that the OS is installed on, and another disk of 2.4TB that I intend to store VM's on etc

If I manage the server in Server manager (using Win8) I can see the OS disk has been assigned C: and is 1.64TB, and appears in the volumes tab

I need to create the second disk, so I go to the disks tab, and I see both disks listed there, but it tells me that the 2.4 TB disk has an unallocated space of 2TB, but capacity of 2.4TB

when i click on the disk it shows me a volume of 350mb down the bottom, but no dive assiged, and an odd path of \\?volumefwr9tjfjergfr something like that

What i want to know is, where as the other 400GB gone? its been allocated but I can't see where too, is this something that happens as part of the install process?

I just want to make a big disk of 2.4TB

    any help is appreciated
