Export Sharepoint 2007 Site RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

I'm having great difficulty exporting a SharePoint Site in SharePoint 2007 SP2 using SharePoint Designer.

There seems to be an issue with sites larger than 24Mb in that the file generated is only 24Mb in size and can't be re-imported into SharePoint.

This issue seems to be referred to all over the internet, but there never seems to be a solution. Has anyone else experienced this issue? Have you found a solution to it?

    Thanks,

    Gavin

  • Hi Gavin,

As you know, SharePoint Designer might be able to back up larger web sites, it can only restore backup files that are less than or equal to 24MB. However, you should be able to restore backup files created with SharePoint Designer by using the stsadm.exe command-line on the SharePoint web server.

    Thanks,

  • Hi,

Neither SharePoint Designer nor stsadm.exe seem to be capable of exporting files larger than 24Mb. SharePoint Designer seems to create several files, then deletes them all, apart from one which is exactly 24Mb in size.

I'd just like to be able to back up individual sites, and be able to restore them.

This seems to be a well documented issue, without a documented solution. Can you offer any more help?

    Thanks.

  • Hi Gavin,

24 mb size is not a constrain for import/export

    check out the below link

    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc901593%28office.12%29.aspx

you can achieve this by various tools

    Refer link:http://spdeploymentwizard.codeplex.com/

Also you can achieve this using SharePoint inbuilt content deployment operation.

  • Hi Gavin,

You could try to increase the default size limit for .cab files to a larger size(MB). Using this command line.

    stsadm.exe -o setproperty -propertyname cabsize -propertyvalue 512

Once this is done you can run the backup operation again using SharePoint Designer.

    Thanks,

    Rock Wang
