EMET 5, Outlook 2010, crashes adding attachment RRS feed

  • Question

  • Running EMET 5, Outlook 2010. When replying to a message if I try to add an attachment I get the following:

    Problem signature:

      Problem Event Name: APPCRASH

    Application Name: OUTLOOK.EXE

      Application Version: 14.0.7113.5000

      Application Timestamp: 527d636c

      Fault Module Name: EMET.DLL

      Fault Module Version:

      Fault Module Timestamp: 53d99ebe

      Exception Code: c0000005

      Exception Offset: 000433b3

      OS Version: 6.1.7601.

      Locale ID: 1033

This happens all the time is the attachment is located on the desktop. As soon as I click on the desktop open in the "Insert File" dialog I get the error message and Outlook shuts down. If I disable MASLR for Outlook 2010 then everything works fine.

  • Could it the case that your virus scanner is trying to scan the file you want to attach and EMET is preventing this and that this causes the crash or that the virus scanner prevents EMET from activating the protections. Does it also happen from other locations such as your documents folder?

  • I've come across the same thing. Outlook 2010 would crash when browsing to Desktop to attach a file. Seems to be the SEHOP protection in EMET 5.

  • I am experiencing the same issue and disabling MASLR also fixed it for me.
