Nano server fails to join domain using DJoin error 0xa9d RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi Folks

Trying to get a Nano server to join a domain, however this fails with error 0xa9d.

    Any help appreciated.

    My Steps:

    1) Created a blob on a DC

    djoin /provision /domain testdomain.com /machine nano1 /savefile blob.txt

    2) Transfered over blob.txt to the test nano server using steps outlined here:

    https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/mt708806(v=vs.85).aspx

    3) Create PSSession as administrator from the DC to nano1

    Enter-PSSession -ComputerName 192.168.0.100 -Credential administrator

    4) Import blob

    [192.168.0.100]: PS C:\Users\Administrator\Documents> djoin /requestODJ /loadfile c:\users\administrator\documents\blob.txt /windowspath %systemroot% /localos

    Fails with:

Loading provisioning data from the following file: [c:\users\administrator\documents\blob.txt].

The offline domain join request failed: 0xa9d.

Unable to load the specified offline registry hive. Please ensure you have access to the specified path location and permissions to modify its contents. Running as an elevated administrator may be required.

Had to include --% as per https://itfordummies.net/2016/02/02/offline-domain-join/

    djoin --% /requestODJ /loadfile c:\users\administrator\documents\blob.txt /windowspath %systemroot% /localos

Funnily enough this is the guide that I followed but it produced the error as in my original post (when you come to import the blob).  As did it for someone else as per the comments at the bottom of the page.

The fix is to add --% to the djoin command.

I have pinged a post to the comments on the page for others to see, just waiting for the post to be moderated.
