  • I managed to resolve this by re-burning the image of DPM 2010 I had at a slower speed and then reinstalling.

  • Hi

Did you run the installation binaries as administrator? Are you using a service account during the installation, is your account domain admin?

  • I've run it as administrator, on an account with domain admin

  • the installation is failing at the time of copying the database files or setup binaries. Can you try the installation with new location for database files, and also the install path of DPM.

Also can you please mail the DPMSetup.log located at <windowsdrive>\DPMLogs\ to chanchak[at]microsoft[dot]com

  • I'm seeing the exact same problem.  To fix I tried installing SQL 2008 R2.  DPM didn't like it - complained that I must have SP1.  So I then tried SQK 2008 SP1.  Win 2008 R2 said that SQL 2008 isn't compatible with Win Server 2008 R2.

This is on a fresh 2008 R2 x64 install with all current updates applied.  Install was attempted as the domain administrator.  All prechecks passed.

I used defaults for install except "No" to update (internal WSUS server) and redirected the SQL database to another partition.

Tried to install again, this time with DPM programs to be installed on the same partition as the SQL database (E drive).  Same failure.

That hasn't worked for me.  I was installing using a virtual drive (VCD).  I tried an install using a fresh burned DVD and got the exact same error.

  • Since I'm getting no response I decided to go ahead and force the install of SQL 2008+ SP1 onto my 2008 R2 server.  Once it was installed and configured DPM 2010 would then install.
