HIS 2006/2009 in Cluster Enviroment RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello,

I am looking for the HIS 2006 and HIS 2009 in cluster enviroment, I mean HIS services registered as cluster resource. I found couple of links and documents which talk about SQL Server cluster configuration which have HIS databases. But my objective is purely HIS product service.

I fond KB article 935191, which talk about the clustering in HIS and SQL environment.

and in the article, Its mentioned that Itself HIS is not a cluster aware product. So can I conclude that we cannot do clustering with HIS services?

Please clarify my doubt and supporting MS link will be really helpful.

    Thanks..

  • The information that you read is correct. Host Integration Server is not cluster aware. The Host Integration Server product (going all the way back to its SNA Server <as it used to be called> days) provides its own load balancing and fault tolerance capabilities. The following article describes these features as they have been implemented (with only fine tuning tweaks over the years) for a long time:

128244 SNA Server load balancing and hot backup
    http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;128244

The following article also talks about the fact that SNA Server and HIS are not cluster aware. The article does not mention HIS, but it still applies:

190151 SNA Server in a Cluster Server Environment
    http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;190151

If you can provide some details about what you are trying to accomplish and what HSI features you are using, we might be able to provide some additional details.

    Thanks...
