Added Basic Info Web Part to Project Site Template - Does not connect to Project Basic Info RRS feed

  • Question

  • We are using MS Project Server 2013 with SharePoint Server Enterprise 2013.

I used the Project Site template for creating a custom project site template. Then I added this project site template to an Enterprise Project Type that also has a Project Professional schedule template associated with it. On the custom project site template, I added the Basic Info web part.

Unfortunately, when the EPT is selected for creating a new project and the basic information about the new project is populated and saved, the Basic Info web part does not work on the new project's project site. The Basic Info web part displays the following error message: "The web part cannot be displayed in this context."

If I add a new Basic Info web part to the new project's project site, it displays the exact same error message. Why doesn't the Basic Info web part work? Is there another method for providing the Basic Info on the newly created project sites? Ideally we want the basic project information provided once and then duplicated on the project site.

Thank you in advance for your assistance!

  • Kalomi,

The Basic Info Webpart is a Project Server Webpart, and will not work on Project Sites, which are attached sharepoint sites. It's just how that web part works.

If you need to display the project Information on Project Sites, I suggest you take a look at Paul's JQUery solution:

  • Is there an out of the box Webpart that shows project information then? If not, is there an intention to create one? I assume there are plenty of folks out there that find this Webpart valuable. Embedding javascript on all of my project pages would be tedious.
