Error when making dism Error: 0x800f081f The source files could not be found.

    Question

  • I tried to make

    sfc /scannow and I get

Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some
of them. Details are included in the CBS.Log windir\Logs\CBS\CBS.log. For
example C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CBS.log. Note that logging is currently not
    supported in offline servicing scenarios.

after that I tried to make a dism and I get that

  • Hi Ayman Ghandour,

It seems that there are something wrong with the system files. Please open an administrator command line and run "sfc /scannow" to check the health of system files, too.
Of course, we could refer to the following link to fix the corrupted files manually.
Use the System File Checker tool to repair missing or corrupted system files
    https://support.microsoft.com/en-sg/help/929833/use-the-system-file-checker-tool-to-repair-missing-or-corrupted-system-files

For the dism source error, the dism command has something wrong with ".esd" format. Unfortunately, the iso download from Microsoft is the ".esd" format and there is official link to download the install.wim now. Anyway, we could boot from the Windows 10 ISO and choose "Upgrade" install to perform an in-place upgrade repair.

    Best regards

  • Hi Ayman Ghandour,

Have you tried "sfc"? Have you tried to fix manually?

Try to boot from a Windows 10 ISO then choose "Upgrade" install to perform an in-place upgrade install.

  • Hi Ayman Ghandour,

I have checked the CBS.log. There are many errors indicating that the shortcuts in this folder C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Accessories\ are corrupted.

We could re-create them manually and they won't affect the usage of the system.

    Best regards

  • I think dism isn't working well because I don't have an install.wim or install.esd for windows 10.0.14393.1066
    The component store is repairable.

But there is no source for my version of windows.

Please anyone give me link to download this version ( 10.0.14393.1066 )

And I think all the problems will go away.

    Thanks

  • Hi Ayman Ghandour,

The latest Windows 10 version is Windows 10 1703. I am afraid it is no longer to download the official Windows 10.14393 iso(Home and Pro).
As I pointed before, those errors are related to the shortcuts. There is no need to worry about them.

    Best regards
