ASP file association set Unkown Application RRS feed

  • Question

  • I manually associate .asp file type to use Internet Explorer as 'Current Default' but some how it keeps switching back to 'Unknown Application'. Is there a way to force it default 'Internet Explorer'? this needs to be done either by registry hack or GPO. I am not a developer, thanks.

  • Hi Thang Mo,

Are you logon with an administrator account ? Are you going to deploy this setting (If so ,what is environment ? )? How did you set the file association ?Have you tried to set the other file types or associate this file to other programs to have a check ?

Usually we can set file association from here . Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Default Programs\Associate a file type or a protocol with a program

There are two registry keys related to this after we set the file association. HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\FileExts\.asp

The OpenWithList registry keys show us the program we have set for this file and MRAList shows the present priority program.

The UserChoice registry keys  show us the present file association program .You can have a look at these registry keys .If it is possible ,try to logon with another account to have a check .

If you want to deploy this setting ,there is a GPP called "Folder Options". We can set the file association  here and then deploy it .User Configuration \Preferences\Control Panel Settings\Folder options

    Best regards
