  • Hi,

As far as I know, one common error during upgrade is missing server-side files — either files that were installed with Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 or customized files. When you prepared for upgrade, you should have created an inventory of the server-side customizations (such as site definitions, templates, features, Web Parts, assemblies) that your sites required. (The pre-upgrade checker can help identify these items.) Check this inventory to make sure that all the files that are needed for your customizations are installed in your upgrade environment.

If you can obtain a missing server-side file or dependency, install it and then run upgrade again for the affected sites. If the file or dependency (such as a Web Part) has been deprecated, you have to investigate whether you want to rebuild the site, page, or Web Part to use a different template, feature, or Web Part. If you can redo the customization by using dependencies that have not been deprecated, you can run upgrade again for the affected sites. If you cannot remove the dependency, you cannot upgrade the site.

    Thanks,

  • Hi,

So is there no way to just remove the server side customization's?

  • Hi,

You can use stsadm –o preupgradecheck to find server side files referenced in the content database. If they were not installed on the server. You need to delete them from your current environment before upgrading to SP1.

    Thanks,

    Rock Wang

  • Hi,

    It should be preupgradecheck.

  • If my memory is correct I believe preupgradecheck is added to STSADM in the last service pack for SP 2007, because its primary use is to upgrade to 2010.

I'm afraid there is no silver bullet to remove the dependencies, this will require quite a bit of manual work.

    Kind regards,

  • Hello,

Thank you for your post .

Is this content database attached from SharePoint 2007 farm where you had Project server 2007 and Application template for Windows SharePoint server 3.0(Fab 40)?  It seems there are multiple features and site definitions missing which are referenced in your content database WSS_Content_Inet.

Below error indicate that there are few application template for Windows SharePoint service 3.0 solutions missing which were present on your 2007 environment. These missing files are from Knowledge base and application temple core. More details about Application Templates for Windows SharePoint Services 3.0(Fab 40)  refer http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/windowsserver/sharepoint/bb407286. There is no updated templates available for SharePoint 2010 at the moment but you can deploy the old WSP packages to SharePoint 2010.
