Whenever I turn on my computer it showed a screen saying 'Configuring Updates Stage 1 of 3' or even 'Stage 3 of 3' RRS feed

  • Question

  • Whenever I turn on the computer, it shows the message 'Configuring Updates Stage 1 of 3' or even '3 of 3' since yesterday. Sometimes it shut downs the computer or restarts it. This has been happening ever since I installed Windows 'Service Pack 2'. My computer installed 99 updates, then went on to the 'Configuring Updates' screen automatically, then restarted my computer.

My computer works fine after the updates finish, it brings me back to the log on screen after 2-5 minutes. Sometimes when I log on, the computer shows a black screen with 'personalised settings' shown on there. But ever since it's been configuring updates, it takes a bit longer for me to get on to my account, so I'd wish to stop it.

I just wanted to know if my computer will keep doing this from now on? It never used to install updates like this before. My computer used to install updates when I pressed the 'installs updates and then shuts down your computer' button. Then it used to shut down automatically. But now my computer restarts and continues with the updates. Is this normal? And is there a way for me to go back to how my computer used to install updates?

My windows update is on 'Install updates automatically (recommended)'. But I thought it was always like that. I'm not sure if that has any reason as to why my computer keeps restarting itself after the installations. But if possible, I'd like to go back to when my computer immediately shut down after the installations.
