Hyper-V Windows 2012 R2 host support Windows 2019 server guest OS? RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi all, is there any document describing Hyper-V Windows 2012 R2 host support Windows 2019 server guest OS?

There is one I had and it was updated some time ago. Windows 2019 not mentioned.

    https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/previous-versions/windows/it-pro/windows-server-2012-R2-and-2012/dn792027(v=ws.11)

    Thank you for any hint.

  • I have the same of question. After I setup the Windows server 2019 guset OS on the Windows server 2012 R2 hyper-V. It seem to work. But on the SCVMM 2012R2. The VM status will show as "unsupported VM configuration". Should I downgrade to the WIndows server 2016 guest OS or upgrade the SCVMM?

    Thanks!

  • Hi Patrick,

Update: The status is "Running" now on the SCVMM2012. The operating system identity as the Windows server 2016, not Windows server 2019. In that VM's properties (SCVMM), type of operation system. The least OS type is Windows server 2016 could be select. Have any patch for SCVMM 2012R2?

    Thanks!

  • You are asking about a Hyper-V environment managed by SCVMM.  This forum is for questions related to general system administration questions about Windows Server.  In order to reach the experts conversant with the technologies involved with your issue, you should post your question to the experts in one of the SCVMM forums, for example https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/home?forum=virtualmachinemanager
