Update to Microsoft Visual C++ 2015 Redistributable x86 and x64 breaks printing (September) RRS feed

  • Question

  • Greetings,

We have seen a problem starting last week (Sept 10th) with an update to Microsoft Visual C++ 2015 Redistributable that appears to break users printing. Their default printers disappear and if we try to re-add the printer, the error is "The Print Processor Does Not Exist."  We also get "Windows cannot connect to the printer. No Printers were Found." if we just try to add the printer from the server. This is across different customers and different networks.  We have to do System restores to before this update to fix the problem.  The users are all windows 7 Pro and on domains.

The C++ Update does not appear in the Installed Updates so we cannot uninstall it from Updates however, when we do a system restore the restore point show up from when these updates were installed.

We have tried various old fixes for this error:

    - Updated Printing Registries and copying files from working machines (no success)

    - Re-install driver - replacing the drivers with new ones (no success)

    - Trying newer drivers - removing and replacing the old ones (no success)

    - Removing computers from the domain, removing the drivers and installing fresh drivers and installing as local printers (no success)

We do NOT know the problem - but this update is the only culprit and what we believe is the issue.  Has ANYONE else seen this and possibly have a fix? Right now if we do not have system restore available, we have to re-image the computers or upgrade them to Windows 10.

    Any suggestions are welcome.

  • Hi,
We try to uninstall the Microsoft Visual C++ 2015 Redistributable (x86) or (x64), then we reinstall the printer to see if the issue can be resolved.
Locate to: Control panel->Programs->Programs and Features->Uninstall or change a program, find the Microsoft Visual C++ 2015 Redistributable (x86) or (x64)

If it works above, then we reinstall the Microsoft Visual C++ 2015 Redistributable (x86) or (x64) if we need.

  • The issue appears to have been caused by Trend Micro anti-virus.
