In-place upgrade of SCCM 2012 R2 SP1 to CM 1702 RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

With the latest 1702 Baseline Media release, as per the Technet bulletin we should be able to Upgrade from SCCM 2012 R2 SP1.

    https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/sccm/core/servers/deploy/install/upgrade-to-configuration-manager

However I dont think an in-console update is possible, because the Service Connection Point role is not available in SCCM 2012.

Also we have our current site servers/database on Windows Server 2008 R2 and SQL Server 2008 R2, both of which do not support 1702. So we're considering the option of performing an Inplace upgrade of the Operating System and SQL Server, and then perform the SCCM Upgrade subsequently. Can I have any suggestion on this sequence?

    1) Take backup of existing SCCM 2012 and SCCM Site DB.

    2) Perform in-place upgrade of Operating System and SQL Server to Windows Server 2012 R2 and SQL Server 2014 R2.

    3) Perform an upgrade of SCCM from 2012 to 1702 using Baseline Media.

    Any comments please?

Also if anyone has already been through the same situation, please share your thoughts/experience.

    Thank You.

Correct that the role doesn't exist but that's irrelevant. You run the upgrade from the media.

For your OS issue, that is a valid path.
