Real time monitoring and reports in Ops Mgr 2007 R2 RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi All,

I have installed SCOM 07 R2. I have configured all the basic settings and have also installed SCOM agents on server like AD, Exchange, IIS etc...

I am looking for some real time monitoring and reports of the following:

    1. Ping

    2. Logical disk space

    3.server CPU Utilization

    4.server performance

    5.disk failure

    6.power failure

    7.power consumptions

    8.disk sapce utilization

    9. disk space free or used space

Please confirm whether I can get both real time monitoring and reports for the same. Please confirm confirm do i need to import any other Management Packs.

Is it necessary to integrate AD with SCOM?

    Plz suggest.

    Regards,

    Gjain

  • hi Gjain,

depends on what you mean with real time monitoring. most monitors take data every 5 minutes or an increment of that. performance views in scom console show those. reports as usually run over longer period (1 day to 1 year).

    ad integration is not needed.

import mps for Windows Server operating system for most stuff. there are others available you will probably want. IIS, SQL, AD, Exchange and so on.

  • Ping is going to be a custom management pack, available from system center central for sure.

Disk space, covered by windows os - reporting on that will be a pain because there are so many logical disk, but possible.

CPU Util covered by windows mp.

    Server performance - windows MP.

Disk failure - windows MP and vendor hardware mp (dell.hp.ibm).

Power failure? - hardware vendor mp/3rd party mp from partner $$

Power consumption - VMM management pack for sure, 3rd party MP $$ - I don't believe this is measured by any MS MP's except for VMM.

Disk space util - same as logical disk - windows mp.

    9 is same as 1 and 8.

Real time, depends on collection rules, most are not very aggressive because you get dw BLOAT.  Performance data is largest part of both databases.  If you want real time you would have to use perf mon.  But a five min or 15 min delay seems real time enough for most people.

Not necessary to do ad integration.
