Just so I understand, are you trying to create a mailbox or a Contact?
And is "service@xyz.com" the name of the object you're trying to
create, or is it an e-mail address you're trying to assign to the
    object?

Are you using the Exchange Management Console or the Exchange
Management Shell to do this? If it's the EMS can you post the cmdlet
    and values you're using?

Is the error telling you that the name of the object you're trying to
create already exists, or that the e-mail address you're trying to
assign to the object is used by some other object?

Is xyz.com your domain or does it belong to some other e-mail system?

    >when I look at the emails or groups there is not a service "user name" or "distribiting groups". so I am sure becase it is an enternal name I can not use it. is there any way to add Service@xyz.com to exchange email?thanks again

I don't understand what you're asking about. Can you restate your
    question?

  • Sure
there is a pop account with email like service@xyz.com
after installing the exchange 2007 and creating all users and email. I tried to create the email with name service@xyz.com. but Windows complains that the specified account already exist. when I look at the emails or groups there is not a service "user name" or "distribiting groups". so I am sure becase it is an enternal name I can not use it. is there any way to add Service@xyz.com to exchange email?

    thanks again

  • What do you get if you run

    get-recipient "service@xyz.com"

     from the EMS?

  • OK.

    How about

    get-user -filter {windowsemailaddress -eq "service@ctspc.com"}

  • i guess I should be more clear.

    thanks again

  • I'm running Exchange 2007 SP2, and I have an account in my domain with that address (customer service email account).

There's nothing special about the STP address service@xyz.com (I'm
assuming you meant 'service' and not 'serive', although there's
    nothing special about either address).

So, to return to the unanswered question, is the error telling you
that the EMAIL address is already in use, or that the user name is
    already in use?
