Crawling SharePoint 2010 from SharePoint 2016 Cloud Search Service Application

    Question

  • Hi,

Is it feasible to crawl SharePoint 2010 content sources from SharePoint 2016 Cloud Search Service Application [CSSA].

So my content/sites still reside in SharePoint 2010 environment and i would like to configure CSSA in SharePoint 2016 and crawl the content from SP 2010 environment.

    Thanks in advance!!

  • Yes, you can crawl it as another Content Source. SharePoint 2010 cannot consume the SSA, though. If you want your users to be able to search while on SharePoint 2010, you'll need to have SharePoint 2010 crawl itself.

  • Hi Trevor,

    Thanks for your response.

If i crawl SP 2010 content source in CSSA in SP 2016 and have search centers created in SP 2016, so can i query from SP 2010 sites which redirects me to the SP 2016 search center which use the CSSA.

So basically my search center will be in SP 2016, however my content will be in three environments [1. SP 2016. 2. SP 2010 and 3. SharePoint Online] and by using CSSA my objective is to have the indexes in SPO and my search centers will be only in SP 2016 and SPO environments

    is this possible??

    Thanks,

  • You can set each Site Collection on 2010 to redirect to the 2016 Search Center. This would be under Site Settings -> Search Settings.
