Lock down c: drive for network workstation RRS feed

  • Question

  • I need to lock down the C: drive on network workstations so the users cannot access the local hard drive and use only network storage assets.  Is there a guide of some kind that would walk me through the procedure?

  • It can be done via Group Policy.

If I understand correctlly you don't want users to access the c: drive. If that's your goal you go to group policy. For me it works on XP, but I think it should work on Windows 7 also.

    You go to:

User Configuration > Administrative Templates > Windows Components > Windows Explorer > Prevent Access to Drives from My Computer

If you also wnat to hide it:

User Configuration > Administrative Templates > Windows Components > Windows Explorer > Hide these Specified Drives from My Computer

    Hope this answers your question.

  • Yes, Thanks.  Appreciate the quick answer.  I just couldn't find it in the group policy.
