Not able to send intranet messages using Messenger Service RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

We are using messenger service on LAN PCs to send intranet messages. On particular PC we observed that sender fails to send message to it, even though the status of messenger service is Started on that particular PC. If we restart the service on that particular PC, then the sender able to send the messages using net send PCName command. We checked the System Log and found no warning/error events reported by Service Control Manager.

What is the root cause and how to resolve this issue?

One thing to be added, we also observed that whenever we switch on the PC from hibernation we are observing this problem but instead of hibernation if we shutdown the PC and then switch it on, then messenger service works properly.

If hibernation is the reason, then can we make the service work with PC hibernated instead of shutdown?

We disabled the hibernation on that particular PC and observed for two days and found that up to two days there were no problem with receiving messages but after that now there is new error  as below while sending messages to that particular PC.

C:\Documents and Settings\rajkumar.phand>net send vrj test

    C:\Documents and Settings\rajkumar.phand>net helpmsg 2136

    A general network error occurred.

A general failure occurred in the network hardware. This problem may be due to a
hardware conflict and could have been generated by any number of other Server s
    ervice commands (for example, Replicator).

See your network administrator. The problem could have occurred because of the h
ardware or software installed on your computer.
