The HealthState of object stay "Uninitialized" RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi:

After import mp file for a long time, I found some of object is still under "Not monitored" state in UnitMonitor.  and the list of the instance is as below

    PS C:\Users\Administrator> get-scomclass -name "ibm.storage.ds8k.hostport" | get-scomclassinstance

    HealthState     InMaintenanceMode  DisplayName
    -----------     -----------------  -----------
    Uninitialized         False        IBMTSDS:IBM.2107-75VD231-21000024FF2FAD89-2

    Success               False        IBMTSDS:IBM.2107-75VD231-21000024FF2FAD88-1
    Uninitialized         False        IBMTSDS:IBM.2107-75VD231-2100001B329B4436-6

    Uninitialized         False        IBMTSDS:IBM.2107-75VD231-21000024FF2FADE1-0

Usual the HealthyState in "Uninitialized" is  briefly , but in my env it stays more one day, is there a way to modify the HealthyState or how to config it?

    Thanks a lot.

  • I'm not sure you are right as two reasons, 1. the objects in the list are the same class, some is healthy while others is not. 2. when I remove the mp and import again, the object will maybe under Monitor state, but maybe some other objects are "Uninitialized".

Is there any restricted condition about DB, such as the number of monitored objects, or discovery frequency?

    Thanks.

first is no, discovery frequency is mp based (but you can speed it up by restarting the agents).

But i don't know what is happening here. To find out you have to find out how the discovery works and just check if they need to be initialised or not...

  • it's something specific to the IBM mp and i gave up on that mp a long time ago (not bc of this specific error, if it is one... it might be intentional). I just hate the dependency hell from IBM and their total lack of support.

  • Thank you for your reply. But I'm afraid I not agree with it's a intentional error. Some objects is "Success" while others is "Uninitialized", mostly after a object is discoveryed, it's under "Uninitialized" state, and then changed to another state, is this controled by SCOM or MP?

  • i never used this powershell commands, but i assume this corresponds to the "green circle" without a checkmark state. That's a not monitored state which is just something that can be designed like that... e.g. i know ibm has an extended support which requires licenses. it will find the objects, but not start monitoring untill it finds a license too (I'm not saying that's what is happening here).
