     - Command "vssadmin list writers" with no errors.

     - Anothers jobs (others VMs ), run correctly

     - I restarted the service "Hyper-V Virtual Machine Management" of the hots where the VM with errors live.

  • Hello Macros,

Are you receiving any VSS or Volsnap errors in the event log of the protected servers that are failing?

What is the data source (volume, SQL DB, Hyper-V guest, Exchange DB) being protected that is failing?

Also check the DPM logs for any more clues:

    DPM Server:

    • %ProgramFiles%\Microsoft System Center 2016\DPM\DPM\Temp\MSDPMCurr.errlog

    Protected server

    • %ProgramFiles%\Microsoft Data Protection Manager\DPM\Temp\DPMRACurr.errlog

    Best regards,
    Leon

This is the comparisson with a server that the backup runs OK:

I have checked that two servers running on the same Hyper-V host, one DPM backup runs OK, but the oter not (two servers part of the same Protection group)

    Thanks

  • The SqlServerWriter may go missing if backup fails, it should come back if you restart the service.

We would need the full DPM log to better analyse your issue, you can upload it to a OneDrive and share the link here.

  • Hi, this is the link for the log: https://1drv.ms/u/s!BLZFPGP0NzoPgUt-1qkBFkPGfNNN?e=u2bBd0

I executed the backup after send it, so the errors are recently.

This is the path: C:\Program Files\Microsoft Data Protection Manager\DPM\Temp

  • Backup job for datasource: Online\ARBUECMPV01 on production server: ARBUECMPV01 - (Configuration Manager).LABA-CTR03.latam.com failed.

I think the name of the protected virtual machine might cause issues as it has special characters in it, and the name is long:

    ARBUECMPV01 - (Configuration Manager).LABA-CTR03.latam.com

I would recommend not using any special characters, just simply use:
    ARBUECMPV01.LABA-CTR03.latam.com

  • Did you remove the VM from the protection group and re-add it after the renaming?

  • This is a host-level backup right? Is this the only VM that is failing? What differences are there between the failing VM and the other working VMs?
