  • Dweik,

Whilst it has been stated on Twitter that Server 2016 is supported in 1606 nothing official is stated on the supported config docs https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/gg682077.aspx#BKMK_SupConfigServerOS or the What's New in 1606 doc https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/sccm/core/plan-design/changes/whats-new-in-version-1606

I haven't run a fresh 1606 install but there's little, if no, difference to installing 1511. The server OS isn't really going to be a matter in this also. So take a look at https://sccmentor.com/2015/12/27/sccm-1511-step-by-step-installation-guide/ and this will get you up and running.

The System Center Dudes have a guide for 2012 to 1511 use this as the basis for a migration plan for 1511 to 1606 https://www.systemcenterdudes.com/sccm-1511-migration/

  • Hello,

These nice articles may help you achieve what you want. These two sites are my references when it comes to Configmgr. Take the time to search their website or ask them some questions about what you want to accomplish :

There is not a lot of documentation on the web actually how to perform a CM 2016 on Windows 2016, since Windows 2016 has been released officially less than a month ago. I assume that Installation would be about the same as on Windows 2012-R2.

  • For System Center 2016 on Windows Server 2016 installation, I found this article :

But it's for the Technical Preview 5, not the full release.

  • Like I mentioned earlier, System Center 2016 on Windows Server 2016 is new and there is little, near to zero documentation on this.

I was able to find this Technet Article on System Center 2016 System Requirements, but there is no mention of Configmgr : https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/system-center-docs/system-requirements/system-requirements

Hi Paul - I think it was updated recently here https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/sccm/core/plan-design/configs/supported-operating-systems-for-site-system-servers

Windows Server 2016 - Standard, Datacenter

    Site servers:

    • Central administration site

    • Primary site

    • Secondary site

    Site system servers:

    • Application Catalog web service point

    • Application Catalog website point

    • Asset Intelligence synchronization point

    • Certificate registration point

    • Distribution point

Distribution points support several different configurations that each have different requirements and in some cases support installation not only on servers, but on client operating systems. For more information about the options available for distribution points, seeManage content and content infrastructure for System Center Configuration Manager.

    • Endpoint Protection point

    • Enrollment point

    • Enrollment proxy point

    • Fallback status point

    • Reporting services point

    • Service connection point

    • Site database server

Site database servers are not supported on a read-only domain controller (RODC). For more information, see You may encounter problems when installing SQL Server on a domain controller in the Microsoft Knowledge Base. Additionally, secondary site servers are not supported on any domain controller.

  • There is no "System Center Configuration Manager 2016". It's "System Center Configuration Manager (Current Branch)".

This is the blog Article If found this : https://blogs.technet.microsoft.com/enterprisemobility/2016/10/12/configuration-manager-a-progress-update-on-the-current-branch-and-a-new-servicing-branch/

But, still the search for installing SCCM "Current Branch" on Windows Server 2016 is still rare.

  • Do you have SQL 2016 standard installed? Is it on the same server as the SCCM server? If its a different server, is it used by other applications? Ie have you reviewed that the SQL server must have its own instance like in the error.

  • Hi Dweik - Can you provide more info on your sccm setup.  I am also planning to install CM 1606 on Server 2016 using SQL 2016 SP1.  Just want to make sure if there are any specific updates that needs to be installed before installing CM 1606.

    Thanks

    Ram
