Dell Vista and Sigmatel audio module RRS feed

  • General discussion

  • Hi,

Since February 2007 I bought 6 computers from Dell.

All with Vista and, to my great surprise, all with an audio module

    that lacks many important functions.

It has been a year now that I struggle to find a solution to my

problem: mainly the absence of Stereo Mix as a source for

    audio recording.

I spent hours talking with Dell's support, reading hundreds of

forums and writing messages like this one. I am tired.

At first I thought that Vista was responsible for that. Today I

suspect that the decision was made by Dell. For what reason?

This is a question which I'm still looking for an answer.

I know that this problem can be solved by software. I found a

solution for my laptop, a Dell Inspiron 640m. I succeeded to

retrieve Stereo Mix only with a regular driver where one of the

    .INI files had been modified.

Now I am looking for the same solution for a Dell Dimension

    9200 (also called XPS 410).

    Thank you for reading,

  • I'm having the the problems on my gateway laptop with a SigmaTel High Definition Audio driver where the stereo mix software apparently has been purposefully left out.

I have also been searching for quite a while and could definitely use some information about where a reliable source for the software for a stereo mix included SigmaTel audio driver download (hopefully straight from microsoft since SigmaTel has no site of their own for downloads).

Pursonally I feel ripped off at the fact of these companies such as Dell and Gateway since I found out from the many forum searches that they *purposefully* leave out the software for this on laptops specifically (I recently bought a desktop fromt he and it had the software) and they make it extensively difficult to be able to get this software, even on their websites.

Please someone help with this issue since it has almost brought me to the point of pulling out my hair.
