Issues while enabling Developer Mode in Win 10 1709 RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi there,

Recently I have an issue while enabling Developer Mode in Win 10 1709. It is enabled remote deployment and Windows Device Portal are failed to install. Error code is 0x800f0954. The computer is running Windows 10 Enterprise, and is upgraded from 1703 through WSUS.

I have referred to this link, but it does not work. I have to use DISM to manually add the package.

    https://blogs.technet.microsoft.com/mniehaus/2017/09/30/using-dynamic-update-with-wsus-to-install-windows-10-feature-updates/

    Server info:

OS Name:                   Microsoft Windows Server 2012 R2 Datacenter
    OS Version:                6.3.9600 N/A Build 9600

    WSUS version: 6.3.9600.18694

Here are some interesting failures I found from logs. Does it means I need the newest ADMX file? We have from Windows 7 to Windows 10 in our company, and Windows 2003 to Windows 2016.

  • Hi!

I bet if you change HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsUpdate\AU the key UseWUServer to 0 and restart the windows update service, it will work. Because it updates through Windows Update and not WSUS.

I also get the Error CBS_E_INVALID_WINDOWS_UPDATE_COUNT_WSUS when i try to install handwriting or speech recognition via WSUS...

At the moment, i still couldnt figure out how to get the WSUS serving the files...

  • Hello,

In addition, if you encounter problems enabling Developer Mode or Device Portal, see the Known Issues forum to find workarounds for these issues, or visit Failure to install the Developer Mode package for additional details and which WSUS KBs to allow in order to unblock the Developer Mode package.

    Regards,

    Yan

  • Hi,

I have encountered the same issue. Did you figure out to import the specific updates into WSUS? I tried looking by the KB numbers that were mentioned in this site (https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/uwp/get-started/enable-your-device-for-development#failure-to-install-developer-mode-package)

    but couldn't find them.

    Thanks!
