Forms based authentication over SSL RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have an extended site that works fine authenticating against a different .net site sharing the forms auth cookie.

Once I enable ssl the site loads, but once I authenticate all pages throw an error. It doesn't appear to be seeing the cookie.

Fiddler is showing some kind of issue with tls cipher issues or something.

Has anyone successfully setup FBA authentication using SSL?

  • Correct, the site worked via http and fba authentication, but was not working via https.

The site was already extended and all updated to web.config were correct, that is why http authentication was working.

It tuns out I had to enter the https url in the internet zone of the public AAM and then create internal urls for non http uls. Once that was correct, authentication via https started working.

  • Hi,

Did you mean that FBA via http works well but FBA via https doesn't work?

From your description, my understand is that you extend the web application to enable SSL. So I think it's because when you extend a web application, it creates a new web.config for that extended zone.  You would need to modify that web.config with your FBA provider.

Besides, you don't need to extend the webApp, you could just add an AAM for your https, then edit the IIS site for your Web Application by adding the HTTPS binding and SSL certificate.
