Internet Explorer 11 wont uninstall or work RRS feed

  • Question

  • I am trying to help two friends with IE11 problems on Windows 7 64bit computers.

One cannot print from either IE11 or from Outlook. IE11 will also not open a link in a new window or new tab

The second one constantly gets the message IE has experience a problem and has to quit and it does.

Unfortunately I can not uninstall IE11 on either machine and revert back to IE10
When I go to the IE11 installation Update and choose to uninstall the update, I get an error message that it could not complete the operation.   I have tried the Administrator cmd line "FORFILES /P %WINDIR%\servicing\Packages /M Microsoft-Windows-InternetExplorer-*11.*.mum /c "cmd /c echo Uninstalling package @fname && start /w pkgmgr /up:@fname /quiet /norestart"
but on one machine I got an error on each action line.  On the other machine the cmd ran, but after a restart IE11 was still there.

I could really use some help in fixing these two machines.  I think removing IE11 and going back to IE10 needs to be done.

Sounds like a permissions problem.  Use ProcMon to correlate and supplement the diagnostics that are being generated.

  • Hi,

The action would fail to finish, let’s check the event log to find if there is anything related to MSI installer:

    1. Open Event Viewer, expand "Event Viewer", "Windows Logs", and select "Application”.
    2. Right click Application, select “Filter Current Log…”, in the event source, select the MsiInstaller .

There, we can see some information about the uninstallation action.
