  • Question

  • Dear Engineer ,

Presently we have windows 2008x64 domain controller and ADS , DNS , GPO it's working fine and more than  1600 domain users and Computers  . we presently implemented new data center windows server 2012 R2  and we created new domain ADS , DNS GPO. I would like to add old 1600 computers IP address and name to new Domain controller also i don't want to remember of all pc's to new domain controller .. is there any best way how to migrate ....

Is there any script to cumulative update old all computer to new dns or is there any other options ?

    Best regards

  • If you want to use same domain, you have to add 2012 domain controller as a Additional domain controller and do the migration. You can refer below article for that.

    http://blogs.technet.com/b/canitpro/archive/2014/05/28/step-by-step-active-directory-migration-from-windows-server-2008-r2-to-windows-server-2012.aspx

If you wan to do separate migration you have to you active directory migration tool

  • Hello,

if you run now domain.com and built newdomain.com there is a MUST to join all computers to the newdomain.com. Otherwise use ADMT as already mentioned.

Just adding the DNS records into the new domain will NOT join computers to the new domain.

  • Dear Boss,

Thanks for your answer ... We will create by manually (All  Users , OU, Group) through our new domain .But  we need only DNS migration we have 1600 computers with different places  we don't want to rejoin to new domain because it will take long time . just we need to migrate All client System name and static IP address in the DNS server that's enough ...
