SQLServer 2008 R2 Enterprise Evaluation Edition to SQLServer 2012 Standard Edition RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi All,

Currently we have new db server installed with SQLServer 2008 R2 Enterprise Evaluation Edition X64 (180 days trail).

We are planning to buy/apply SQLServer 2012 Standard Edition X64 on this.

    My question is

    1) Will it be possible to apply 2012 Std license key to 2008 R2 Evaluation?

    2) If it's possible, can we apply 2012 Std license key directly on current 2008 R2Enterprise Evaluation Edition without installing it?

Please advise me on this as it's bit urgent.

Your quick reply is much appreciated.

    Thanks and Regards,
    Chaithanya.

Since the question is a license issue, you can call 1-800-426-9400 begin_of_the_skype_highlighting 1-800-426-9400 end_of_the_skype_highlighting, Monday through Friday, 6:00 A.M. to 6:00 P.M. (Pacific Time) to speak directly to a Microsoft licensing specialist. • You can run the installer and use the feature change option to change your feature set from Enterprise to Standard and put in your key.

It probably makes more sense to detach your databases and uninstall 2008.  Then do a new install of 2012 and re-attach your databases (as long as you aren't using enterprise features)

  • Thanks  Justin for your reply.

So, we can apply SQLServer 2012 Standard Edition license key on SQLServer 2008 R2 Enterprise Evaluation Edition also.

I have asked 2) question wrongly.

    2) can we apply SQL2012 Standard Edition license key directly on current SQL2008 R2Enterprise Evaluation Edition without uninstalling it?

[ As you advised,You can run the installer and use the feature change option to change your feature set from Enterprise to Standard and put in your key.]

    Please help me on this.
