Throttle and set quotas for CPU consumption RRS feed

  • Question

  • I work in a large corporation and we have 3000 apps. Some of them a badly behaved and greedily take all the CPU they can. Symantec Endpoint Protection antivirus for example. The desktop machines are almost unusable when a thread is taking 100% CPU.

Sysinternals tools are wonderful and there is PSsuspend to pause a process. We don't want to stop the processes, just to discipline them to take no more than say 20% CPU.

Anyone know any robust tool that would permit this ?  Ideally this should be native to Windows. In Linux it is easy enough.

I've Googled and found some hits but nothing in recent times or a direct match.

    Any thoughts ?
