how can i add another switch in network RRS feed

  • Question

  • Dear Expert,

    greeting in advance.

I want to extend my network by another switch. below my current configuration for your review and solution.

    Switch1>>Core switch : 192.168.1.1

    Switch 2>> subnet 1 : 192.168.2.254

    Switch 3>>subnet 2: 192.168.3.254

    Switch 4>>subnet 4>> 192.168.4.254

now for the switch 4 , all 22 port used. But I need to add more 8 connection into same switch4. because this switch 4 connected by fiber connection to core switch 1.

How can I add this more connection to Switch 4>>subnet 4>> 192.168.4.254 ?

once again many thanks , and look forward for your expert solution.

    regards.

  • Hi

    Lets Take an Example

In your core switch port 10 is Free 192.168.1.254

and on New Switch port 1 we are going to use as Uplink

    • Configure Core switch port 10 as Trunk
    • Connect Port 10 of the core switchn the new swtich port 1.
    • Thats it about configuration
    • on the New switch port apart from port 1 Tag Vlan as per your requirement. If you want Vlan 192.168.5.254, then tag all port excluding port 1 to this Vlan ID

  • HI

AS you dont have Port, You many need to add another switch in stack with other switch or need to connect a cable as uplink port from new switch to other switch.

You can use the same subnet as you wish..

  • Hi

    Many thanks.

Let assume the switch will be Switch 5>>subnet 5>> 192.168.5.254

what will be setting? and how I will connect in the existing switch?

    best regards.

  • You can add multiple ip addresses to a single network adapter. I'm not sure if this works in your scenario. You can go into the network adapter and click TCP/IPV4 and then you have one static, to add more click advance and then add.

If that doesn't work then you can see if you have a managed or unmanaged switch. Depending on if its a managed switch or not, you might be able to add virtual network adapters on the switch ports.

  • All access done by core switch.

    Switch1>>Core switch : 192.168.1.254 (core switch)

Switch 2>> subnet 1 : 192.168.2.254 (connected to core switch)

Switch 3>>subnet 2: 192.168.3.254  (connected to core switch)

Switch 4>>subnet 4>> 192.168.4.254  (connected to core switch)

    >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>new switch connected in switch 4

    >>>>>>>>>>>> here I want to add another switch( switch 5) and should be access from core switch

Still I can't access the device attached to switch 4
